So What is a Reasonably Good CTR?

A lot of people wonder what a reasonably good clickthrough rate is.  Well, here is a good chart for setting your expectations.

I’m sure that .09% doesn’t sound all that good to you but if you’re paying on a pay-per-click basis this may not be such bad news.  The intent of this study was to monitor CTRs worldwide and to especially watch what until recently was a declining percentage.  It looks like things have stabilized recently with some saying that is because the industry is maturing and banner ads are becoming more effective.

The value of a banner ad impression is also something to keep in mind as you evaluate the success of a display ad.  Some studies indicate that impressions have an even better conversion rate than actual clicks.  I find that hard to  believe but more on that later.
