Newspaper Ad Sales Way, Way Down, Again

Here’s the first look at projected newspaper ad sales for 2011 from the blog, Reflections of a Newsosaur.

I can’t find any good news here for newspapers.  Even saying the year is over doesn’t work as they are predicting next year won’t be any better.

Maybe this is a positive, “The only bright spot was digital advertising, which climbed 8.3% over the prior year to $2.3 billion.”

The lesson for anyone involved with local advertising is that old media just isn’t what it used to be and it never will be again.  The economy isn’t causing this problem, consumers are as they spend more time online getting their news and information from a wide variety  of sites and apps on multiple devices.

Newspapers aren’t gone, they just aren’t what they used to be.

Thank goodness the technology is here that can put both new media and old media tools in the hands of your dealers.
