The first message I take away from comScore’s Video Metrix service report for August is that I’m not an average viewer.  But over 161 million people watched online videos in August and the average viewer watched for 10 hours.

Over 25 billion videos were viewed and Google sites alone showed 10 billion of them (that’s billion not million).

These are incredible numbers and as brand marketers we have to adjust to the way we think about communicating with our consumers.  In fact, based on these numbers online video is rapidly becoming the way consumers expect to get information online.

Providing your dealers with microsites now has another value as it’s the perfect platform to publish videos.  Putting a video player on each microsite is an inexpensive way to build your own broadcast network where you don’t have to pay television stations for the time.  Link to the microsite from your dealer locator, make it a landing page for a local Google ad campaign and encourage dealers to link to it from their own site and you’re reaching consumers with your video message for a fraction of the cost of doing it the old fashion way.

The Internet rewards those who move fast, providing a platform for your dealers to show videos online will be a win/win solution for your brand, your dealers, your consumers and your bottom line for years to come.
