Not surprisingly but online service coupons site visits are increasing at a significant rate.

Here’s a link to comScores May report for the Top 50 U.S. Web Properties.  In there you’ll find this chart which indicates a 19% increase to Services – Coupons during May.  The largest increase in any category.

comscore-top-10-gaining-site-categories2It makes sense that coupons are getting more popular with this economy as gas prices go up and discretionary spending gets smaller.

In this blog we write a lot about landing pages for Google Local Search and microsites for your retailer along with the more traditional ad builder technology for newspapers and direct mail.

It seems to me that encouraging your retailers to build online service coupons right now is a good idea.  It’s what consumers are looking for.  It’s what your retailers are good at and is generally very profitable for them.

However, make sure your online version captures some information about the consumer before they print it out.  It still amazes me how many times you can print out a coupon without the provider of the coupon asking for any information.

I’ll give you my email address and maybe more information for a personalized coupon for X off on service at a specific local lawn mower dealer.  As a brand marketer I now have a consumer name, associated with my retailer and therefore an opportunity to learn more and sell more.

Of course, this only works if you have control over a microsite for that dealer or control the landing pages in any online campaign.
