The trend continues to be up for online ad spending as the first half of 2011 (H1) is up 23% over the first half of 2010.  Here’s the breakdown by category.

If this trend continues, as expected, 2011 will be a record year for online ad spending of $31.3  billion surpassing last years spending of $26 billion.

From the chart above, even in this weak economy, you’ll see healthy growth across the board (except for email).

The point to be made here is that if you’re in charge of retail advertising for your brand and you’re still putting all or most of your dollars in traditional media, you’re missing the boat.

The challenge is that because online advertising is very confusing to retailers, we have to lead them in the right direction by teaching them what works and what doesn’t and put the tools in their hands to take advantage of all of the best techniques.

Take a look at your current Marcom site or ad builder, is it helping retailers like it’s 2000 or 2011?

The good news is that the online tools to bring your retailers up to 2011 are available.
