Just when you thought you were keeping up with all the changes in local marketing, Facebook comes up with a new way for you to get the news and therefore a new place for advertisers to reach consumers.  It’s called Facebook Editions and it basically acts as a Facebook site for a newspaper.

The big play here is that when you read an article on Facebook, it’s noted on your Facebook page with the idea that it will encourage your friends to read the same article.  And, of course, you will have the opportunity to “Like” everything on the Facebook edition.

The strange part is that the Washington Post articles you read are on Facebook’s platform and you don’t link out to the Washington Post’s site.  So the ad revenue opportunity is for Facebook and not for the Washington Post?  Or, is there a plan to share the revenue between the two entities?

My favorite quote from all of the hype about this new service is:

So, I’m not going to think too much about this service just yet.  I’ll get interested when someone can answer the revenue model question.
