Here’s another reason why localism is going to get better online.

Firefox 3.5 was just released and it has an interesting feature called Location-Aware Browsing.

Here’s how they describe it.

When you come to a site that is designed to present itself based on where you are Firefox asks you for permission to tell the site your location and then it will remember your location for future site visits.

Now the site can connect you to your local outlet, pricing and inventory information without every asking you again for your zip.

It’s getting closer and closer to the time when a brand site will be better to think of itself as a collection of thousands of local sites that do a much better job of getting shoppers and retailers together online for a future in-store purchase.

It’s time to rethink how dealer locators work and the value of microsites for your dealers.
